Are you kidding me?

This morning I watched an episode of  "Sell This House: Extreme" on A&E.
Here is a picture of the Austin, Texas house that was featured.

When I heard that the owners were asking $395,000, I yelled at the t.v., "oh for Pete's sake, you have GOT to be kidding!"

The "pros" told the homeowners that in its current condition, they would be lucky to get $340,000. Again, "you have GOT to be kidding!!!"  It was decided that $20,000 worth of renovations would be needed to make the house "sellable".    After the remodeling was complete, the "pros" decided that the new asking price would be $495,000. This time, I didn't say a word...just sat there with my mouth open.

I want to know...IS THIS FOR REAL?

Similar house for sale in Muncie, Indiana....$30,000

House for sale in Muncie, Indiana with the same final asking price of the featured home.

I do realize that comparing Muncie, Indiana to Austin, Texas is like comparing apples to grapes. Muncie is the closest larger city nearby, which is why I used it for comparison.  I live in a rural area and by some people's standards, it's Hicksville (I'm okay with that). But, still...."for Pete's sake, you have GOT to be kidding me!!!"

Isn't that so crazy??? I do the same thing when I watch that show too. It's so amazing how prices differ around the country!

Tresa,
I know just what you mean. My mouth would have been hanging open too. Around here some very nice smaller homes are selling in the 40s after the home values crashing. It's just crazy some of those prices you see. Thanks so much for the nice comment. I'm so excited you like my new studio the best. I love it so much. I still have to pinch myself sometimes when I come down here. It's too good to be true. You'll have to let me know what website or blog these rooms are on if you ever get a chance, I'd like to look at them.
Hugs,
Julie

I am always flabbergasted when I watch HGTV and they show homes for sale in California with prices of 450,000.00 for a 1920s bungalow! I'm glad that I've been able to raise my kids in a home in the suburbs when I see those ridiculous kinds of prices. Austin, I thought TX was cheap!
